• Position and symmetry • Lesions, drainage, nodules or redness of external ear • Mastoid area behind each auricle • Presence and color of cerumen • Tympanic membrane

Nose assessment:

• Nasal flaring or discharge • Nasal patency • Vestibule, turbinates and nostrils in nasal cavity • Pain, tenderness, swelling and deformity • Frontal and maxillary sinuses • Obstructions and tumours

Mouth and throat assessment:

• Lips • Oral mucosa, gingivae, gums and teeth • Tongue and underneath tongue • Neck • Lymph nodes

Ears – earache, hearing loss, otorrhea Nose – epistaxis, nasal flaring, nasal stuffiness and discharge, pain or tenderness Mouth and throat – dysphagia, throat pain and swollen lymph nodes
